A Walk in the Deciduous Forest is part of a series of books, each of which addresses the climate, foliage, location, and animal population in the different biomes. Each book begins by describing what a biome is and providing a map of the United States with different biomes shaded in different colours. Also included in the book is a small section defining the more difficult words used in the text.
There were several things that I loved about this series. One was that there was no hint of environmentalism. The second was that it provided an abundance of photographs. Now, in most nature books, the photographs are ill lighted and very bleak looking. Such is not the case with this series – all of the photographs are sunny and happy looking.
Conclusion. Excellent. Wonderfully educational for children.
