Although I didn’t realize this when I picked it up, Where Are My Puffins, Whales, and Seals? is basically an outcry against global pollution. The title itself – Where Are My Puffins, Whales, and Seals? – is designed to mourn the slow disappearance of these animals from their natural homes due to toxic waste.
I both appreciated and disliked the goal of Puffins, etc. – I appreciated that it urged children to take more responsibility for their actions and not engage in unnecessary waste. But I disliked that it portrayed man’s dominion calling as oppressive, insensitive, and barbaric. Has it been in some cases? Yes. Does this mean that man should back off and let ‘Nature’ continue in her ‘peaceful’ course? Absolutely not.
Puffins contained only photographs; there were no illustrations. The photographs, while more detailed than illustrations would have been, were also more bleak – perhaps to emphasize the view of ‘Nature’ as a martyr. :)
Conclusion. You heard and seen it all before. Not really worth purchasing.
