From the author of Island Boy!
Hattie has wanted to be a painter ever since she lived in the great red-brick house on Bushwick Avenue. Her siblings always teased her when she said so, but Clara, the cook, and her daughter Mary both say that Hattie makes beautiful pictures. While her siblings enjoyed their music making and dress fittings, Hattie wanted only to draw.
But is there a place for Hattie’s drawings in the world?
Page 12 is an illustration of several people looking at Cleopatra’s Barge.
Conclusion. I preferred Cooney’s Island Boy, but Hattie and the Wild Waves is still a sweet story.
