A cute little book that tells the brief story of Joey, a baby kangaroo, who spends his days hopping around, wrestling with other joeys, and riding in his mother’s pouch. When a dingo threatens the kangaroos, they use their powerful legs to outdistance him and find a new home where Joey experiences for the first time, the joys of playing in a water puddle.

The eerie thing is, although I wouldn’t have read it for over thirteen years, I’m pretty sure my family had a copy of this book that I read when I was a little kid. I remember always being moderately scared when the dingoes arrived, and equally relieved when the kangaroos escaped.

Conclusion. A sweet read aloud – no real scientific information is conveyed, but listeners will feel that they have been properly introduced to kangaroos.
