Title: The Snowy DayThe Snowy Day
Author: Ezra Jack Keats
Pages: 33
Reading Level: Read Aloud
Star Rating: ★★★

From the illustrator of Over in the Meadow (never could figure out who the author is!), comes this celebration of winter and all its accompanying delights.

Peter, a cute little boy in a great red coat, is our protagonist of sorts. He wanders around through the snow-covered landscape discovering the joys of sledding, making snowmen, snow angels, and especially of knocking a stick against a snow covered tree. :)

It wasn’t until I was flipping through the book to start this review that I realized that nobody actually spoke in it. The entire story is narrative! While this didn’t bother me, I do wonder how children will like this lack-of-active-tone-and-chance-for-tonal-variation.

The illustration style is blocky and very, very colorful. Tints of pink, green, and blue are mixed into the snow, giving the story a fanciful feel.

Conclusion. Cute.
