Oh, gracious. Can anybody say a walk down memory lane? Cause that’s what that book cover is, staring back at me. A huge trip into the recesses of my childhood.

Not that we ever owned a copy. In fact I’m pretty sure we didn’t. But every time Mom would go shopping at TJ Maxx, she would let us sit in the kid’s section and read the books. I read this one over and over as she shopped. And If You Give a Moose a Muffin. And If You Give a Pig a Pancake.

I’m pretty much assuming that everybody’s heard of this series. But just in case you haven’t, here’s how it works.

If you give a mouse a cookie. *whimsicality alert* Well, what would any creature want if given a cookie? A glass of milk of course! And when you give him the milk – well, mice are rather short. He’ll probably want a straw to drink the milk. And after he’s done with the milk and cookie, he’ll need a napkin too clean himself up and a mirror to see how effective his job was…

And on. And on. You may think that giving a mouse a cookie is a simple affair, but it is just the beginning of a far longer process. :)

The illustration style is my favorite – raggedy, colorful, and with great attention to detail. Gobs and galores of detail. It’s splendid, really.

Conclusion.  A children’s classic.
