When you see dandelions turning silver, look to the north. Wolf pups are being born.
I’ve reviewed some of Jean Craighead George’s other books about natural environments (One Day in the Tropical Rainforest, One Day in the Alpine Rainforest). But of the books I’ve read by her, this one by far is my favorite. I think it is because not only does she follow the lives of three wolf pups from their birth to their installment as full fledged members in the wolf pack, but also because of the saga-like, lyrical tone of the opening lines of each chapter.
When you see baby robins, look to the north. Wolf pups are almost weaned.
The illustrations are beautiful – full of rich life and detail with a hint of wispiness to it. Of course, wolves are just gorgeous. :)
Conclusion. Great for wolf (or husky!) lovers.
