Grandfather Buffalo is old. He can no longer move as quickly as the rest of the herd. This means that sometimes he trails far back behind them as they make their way to new pastures. But Grandfather Buffalo refuses to be left behind completely.
And then, one day he comes upon another straggler. This straggler is not old – she is young. But inside her she carries the weight of an even younger life. Grandfather Buffalo protects her as she trails behind the herd, and when she gives birth to a young calf, he takes it upon himself to protect the young calf. Grandfather Buffalo still belongs to the herd.
Conclusion. A sweet picture book that teaches how every member of a family is important.
