The Three Investigators are at it again!

The Story.

Pete Crenshaw’s grandpa, Ben Peck, is a real firecracker of a guy. Not only is he an inventor, but he is also very jealous of his creations – and he’s certain that his foxy neighbor is trying to steal his inventions before he can get them patented! Well, he’ll just show that toad – he’ll go to D.C. himself to get the patents!

Pete’s mother, worried that her father will get into trouble along the way, hires the Three Investigators to travel with him all the way from California to the East Coast. The boys are super excited to see so much of the US, but soon begin to wonder if they’ll be able to keep their end of the bargain…

I really enjoyed this installment. The story line was humorous as well as involving – Grandpa Peck was a real hoot – and the interaction between the three boys and Pete’s grandpa was cute.

One middle-aged woman tries to flirt with Grandpa, but Jupiter effectively quells this by telling Grandpa that ‘Grandma’ wants him. :D

‘Darn’ is used twice while ‘gosh’ and ‘gee’ are each used once.

Conclusion. A really fun adventure with The Three Investigators. Also read The Mystery of the Kidnapped Whale, The Mystery of the Sinister Scarecrow, and The Secret of the Crooked Cat.
