A haunted what?!?

The Story.

Strangely enough, it was Worthington, the British chauffer who introduced the Three Investigators to their newest case. His friend, the eccentric Mrs. Darnley, is a collector of antiques. The pride and joy of her collection is the mirror – an enormous, grotesque thing with an aura of mystery about it. Even more mysterious are the constant attempts of one, Senor Santora, to purchase the mirror and the presence of a shadowy burglar in the library room, where the mirror is held. What is the fascination with the mirror? Is it valuable?

Then the boys hear the legend surrounding the mirror – that it is haunted by its original owner, Chiavo, who was a seer. The boys pshaw at this story until they are greeted by Chiavo’s own apparition in the mirror! The boys know they must get to the bottom of the secret of the mirror, but how? And can they discover its secret before it is stolen?

There is much talk of the mirror being haunted and Chiavo’s presence in the mirror being a sign of doom to the owner. There are even several “appearances” of Chiavo, but in the end these are all proven to have been of natural machination.

A few euphemisms are used.

Conclusion. Fun – not as enjoyable as The Mystery of the Crooked Cat, The Mystery of the Kidnapped Whale, and The Mystery of the Nervous Lion, but still an acceptable little adventure.
