Dontcha just love those outfits?!?
Mr. Carson Drew has a case for his daughter Nancy. It seems that one, Mr. Winch, has been frightened away from a summer resort by the sight of a ghostly barge drifting across the bay. Is Nancy interested in investigating? You better believe it!
But when Nancy arrives, she finds that there is more to this case than merely an apparition. Also of interest are the mysterious Driscolls who live just up the road at Pudding Stone Lodge. Why are they so surly – and secretive? And are they the minds behind this bizarre attempt to frighten people away from the neighborhood?
One subplot of the mystery is a young girl named Cecily Curtis and her search for her ancestors home and fortune. Although it is not emphasized, I found it fascinating that the treasure that Cecily was searching for had been hidden when the War Between the States began.
Conclusion. Fun. Also read The Three Investigators series and The Hardy Boys.
