The Hudson River is, indeed – as the subtitle declares it – a river of history. Running as it does straight through New England, it has seen many incidents from the earliest settling of that area by the Dutch in the 1600s through the American Revolutionary War in the 1700s and the continual developments as explorers and inventors used the river for their own devices.
Illustrations are included of the different events which took place along the river, adding an air of partial immediacy.
Several of the fanciful legends which surround the Hudson River are recounted – these include phantoms and ghosts, and even the devil himself!
The “last great ice age” is mentioned while the geography of the place is being described.
Conclusion. For those interested in the history of America’s great rivers, this book will provide good information concerning the Hudson.
