Despite being only 32 pages long, Closer Look at Earthquakes provides a surprisingly thorough explanation of earthquakes – how they originate, the course they run, and the effects they have on creation. Sure, there isn’t a lot of heady science stuff discussed, but Ms. Pope was careful to be technically correct in her simplicity.
Through a combination of photographs and illustrations she gives visuals of the different types of waves caused by earthquakes, the tectonic plates, how seismographs record data, and the strength of earthquakes according to both the Richter and Mercalli scales.
One reference to millions of years.
Conclusion. All-in-all, fun stuff.
