Recommended Ages: Read Aloud
Star Rating: ★★★

In this book, Chris Butterworth and John Lawrence have done a delightful job introducing their readers to the shyest fish in the sea – the sea horse. The illustrations have a mural-ish feel to them and the colors are soft blues and green. We swim along with the seahorses and watch them charge into the current and camouflage into their environment. We see what it looks like when hundreds of new baby seahorses float out to sea. And we find that, although the shyest, seahorses may also be the cutest fish in the sea!

We are told that Sea Horse and his mate “dance till sunset and then she puts her eggs into his pouch”. Not especially graphic, but it may start kids wondering about other things…

Conclusion. A sweet read aloud.
