Pal the Pony lives with lots of other horses on Star Ranch. Today is a fancy rodeo and it seems that all of Pal’s friends are playing important parts in the show – Blaze is the fastest running horse in the ranch, and Kicker is the best bucking bronco. Samson is strong and can pull the wagons for the hayride. But Pal cannot kick or run or pull wagons. Pal is dejected. He cannot do anything.

And then a little girl notices him and asks for a ride. Soon Pal is giving rides to all of the children at the rodeo! He is just the right size for them and since he doesn’t kick or go too fast, they love him. And Pal loves them, too!

Conclusion. A pretty cute beginning reader. Pal really is darling and the pictures are a cute sketchy style.
