In this 4th level DK Reader, Richard Platt takes on one of the most significant military invasions of history – the Allied invasion of Normandy on D-Day. Platt dives into the story at the beginning of the war explaining how each of the main countries became involved in the conflict then works his way forward to 1943, explaining the importance of reclaiming occupied France for the Allies.

Facts begin to fly as Platt describes the planning that went into Operation Overlord and its cover plan, Operation Fortitude. Platt then walks us through the attack and invasion of the various quadroons of Normandy beach, highlighting the special difficulties each presented. Finally, the pivotal role D-Day played in the eventual liberation of France is discussed.

Pictures dot every page as well as small boxes containing special information.

Conclusion. Superb – better than World War II: D-Day.
