Title: The Monster Behind Black RockThe Monster Behind Black Rock

This little picture book does a wonderful job of demonstrating the reality of exaggerative gossip and the equally real havoc it may wreak. When Skunk tells Rraccoon that he tripped over a rock and stubbed his toe, there seems to be no harm done – until Raccoon repeats the story to Prickly Porcupine who in turn tells Fat Frog, who quickly reports the tale to Long Snake, etc., etc. Each animals adds a tiny detail to the account – a detail that doesn’t seem to directly affect the truth of the story, but which by the end of the book has created a vicious monster that lives behind black rock who attacked Little Skunk as he was walking by.

Conclusion. Superb.
