This book is a part of the ‘This Land is Your Land” series which examines each of the geographical sections of the United States. In The West we take quick peaks at Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Wyoming.
The West read like a tiny and very incomplete encyclopedia. Brief facts are related about each of the states – things such as population, area industry, state flower, etc., and even a few historical facts are mentioned, but I in no way feel like I actually know anything about the western states as a result of reading this book.
The Wizard of Oz is mentioned as well as the notion that the mountains and deserts of the west are millions of years old.
